Before you start to measure for a window blind...

You should use a steel tape measure as they are much more reliable than cloth / plastic tapes.

Look for any obstructions that could get in the way of the blind - i.e. window handles, telephone boxes, cables etc

Decide if you want the blind to fit inside or outside of the window recess  - What is a recess?

Back to prepare & plan 

Measure the width and drop and supply us these measurements in mm. If you are using inches then you can use the converter on the order page.

Bear in mind that very few windows are absolutely level. It is common for the measurements to vary from top to bottom buy a small amount, but this small amount can make a big difference to how the blind fits.

How our wooden venetian Blinds are supplied

Your blinds will be delivered by a courier to your chosen delivery address.

Each blind will come well packaged in its own box. On the outside of the box you will see a docket from our warehouse (Styleline Blinds) with the details of your blind.

Once open, you will find a box of brackets, an extra support (use on blinds over 120cm wide) valance clips and plastic end caps should you wish to use them.

Then there will be the actual blind, a matching valance and at least 2 spare slats in case you damage one or experience some slight warping.

You will find fitting instructions but you may also watch our fitting videos if you prefer to watch.

What is a Recess?

INSIDE RECESS (RECESS) or OUTSIDE RECESS (EXACT)

VERTICAL BLINDS - RECESS

Measure from side to side, starting at the top of the window. You can then run the tape measure down the window to find the smallest width.

Then measure the drop. We suggest you start from one side and slide the tape along to find the smallest drop.
If you order the blind as recess we will make an allowance to let the blind operate within the gap, and supply top fix brackets as standard. These allow you to fit the blind in the top of the recess, but we can also supply face fix brackets that let you fix to the frame. If you prefer these then please ask in the special instructions box.

VERTICAL BLINDS - EXACT

Vertical blinds are usually fitted inside the recess, but if you want to go outside of the recess then decide how much of an overlap you would like each side of the window, and how high you would like the blind to be over the window. We will order face fix brackets as standard if you order your blind with an exact measurement.

VENETIAN BLINDS - INCLUDING WOOD - RECESS

Then measure the drop. We suggest you start from one side and slide the tape along to find the longest drop. This means the blind will sit on the window sill when closed.
If you order the blind as recess we will make an allowance to let the blind operate within the gap.

VENETIAN BLINDS - INCLUDING WOOD - EXACT

If you want to go outside of the recess then decide how much of an overlap you would like each side of the window, and how high you would like the blind to be over the window.

ROLLER BLINDS - RECESS

Measure from side to side, starting at the top of the window. You can then run the tape measure down the window to find the smallest width.
Then measure the drop. We suggest you start from one side and slide the tape along to find the longest drop. This means the blind will sit on the window sill when closed.
If you order the blind as recess we will make an allowance to let the blind operate within the gap.

NB - the fabric on a roller blind will never be the same as the measurements supplied because the controls on the rail take up about 3cm to 4cm on the roller blind. This is not usually a problem because the blind will still cover the window frame.

ROLLER BLINDS - EXACT

If you want to go outside of the recess then decide how much of an overlap you would like each side of the window, and how high you would like the blind to be over the window.
